To combat the effects of climate change, some proposals seem too far-fetched to be taken seriously. While solutions should come mainly from a global change in political and cultural attitudes, technological progress undoubtedly plays an important role in combating environmental degradation.

An idea with seemingly limitless potential is developed by Toronto-based Flash Forest. It proposes the use of drones to plant more than a billion trees worldwide by 2028.
According to Flash Forest, planet Earth is losing 13 billion trees and regaining only half of them every year. While several companies and think tanks are developing strategies to quickly plant trees using a variety of methods, Flash Forest believes that reforestation by drone is the most effective solution.
These heavy drones are each equipped with a pneumatic firing device that can insert planting pods into the ground at an ideal depth with minimal error. Each pod contains at least three pre-germinated seeds and a cocktail of ingredients that help the seeds grow. A second drone will sweep the same soil covered by the first and spray the soil with nitrogen and other nutrients to promote rapid growth.
